Kathleen
Veronica Butts (ne' Hardy) was born in North Dakota and moved to Oregon at
the age of three. Her desire and ability to draw even then was apparent and
encouraged. She won numerous art awards, did a weekly radio broadcast pertaining
to drawing, and was selling sketches before the age of nine. Kathleens commitment
for accurate representation of her subjects has taken her and husband Lloyd,
throughout North America. Extensive field work and research is of utmost importance
in understanding her subjects, their character and relationship with one another
and their environment. Doing shows around the country has also been important;
meeting people that are touched by her work and share their knowledge and
sometimes taking her and Lloyd to their "special place". Once a
young man took them on a 7000 foot climb to a remote canyon where they sat
on a rock ledge viewing mountain goats until the snow turned golden in the
setting sun. Nature is the masterpiece and transferring these magical moments
to canvas is the challenge. She has participated in a very select group of
jured art shows, including the prestigious Safari Club International (special
auction), the C.M. Russell Show and Auction, Audubon, Pacific Rim Wildlife
Art Show, annually (the First Place Award 1988) and Martine Colett's Wildlife
Waystation Benefit Shows (1997 poster artist). Her work has been in many galleries
and museums across the country, such as Favell museum, Wild Wings Galleries,
and Stephan Fine Art Galleries who published some of her work.
